That guy in the corner... [userpic]

R.i.P Lurch

WoW - This brings me WAYYYYY back to my life in San Francisco.

If you were even remotely somebody in the bay area, the name Lurch was very common to you.

I had the pleasure of meeting him when I competed in IBR 6 years ago and actually, way before that just in passing at the bars/bear events.. I just remember this very large hand coming up between my legs, being lifted off the ground about a foot and this big furry beard covering me and big lips wrapping around to give me a big kiss. He was a role model, a mentor, a pioneer and a great friend to me and everyone who came into his presence. He was a man of much wisdom, could talk or joke his way through any situation and a firm believer in a happy smiley face.

I am missing so much by not being in the Bay Area.. all my friends have moved on, don't really talk to many of them any more as everyone there lives..

Thank You and Goodbye my Friend.

I never met him, but knew of him through some of my friends who had met him. They all said he was a really nice guy. I always wondered how he liked his comic strip version, "Nurse Mike", in Tim Barela's "Leonard and Larry". Is there a website for "Lurch" Sutton?

OMG

I met Lurch at my very first Bear Run. I was absolutely positively terrified (I am a delicate flower, after all) of the entire situation; but he came right up to me; gave me a big hug, welcomed me to 'the Bear world' and was very kind to me.
